Recently, we shot a wedding that was outdoors at the beautiful Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Everything worked out perfectly in the end but it really made me remember something very important.
Although an outdoor wedding can truly be a beautiful thing, you really need to be prepared for mother nature to not be in a good mood. This particular wedding was at 6pm and it started to rain heavily around 3:30pm. When the call was made to bring the wedding indoors, the bride was not happy. She had always pictured an outdoor wedding and was disappointed when it looked like it wasn’t going to happen. Fortunately, God smiled on everyone and brought the sun out around 5pm. Cheryl and her crack staff at the country club were outside drying off chairs with hand towels to try and give the guests a place to sit. Luckily, we were able to have the wedding outside and give our bride her dream wedding.
So the point I’m trying to make here is that if you want to have an outdoor wedding, you have to be willing to accept the fact that weather may not be favorable and have a “Plan B” that you are comfortable with. If the idea just isn’t palletable to you, we would strongly urge you to consider an indoor venue for your ceremony.
