When Stacie Bowen Desautels, Director of Sales & Marketing for The Fountains Wedding and Conference Center, approached us to do a commercial for their new restaurant, The Lagoon, we were thrilled.  We’ve always loved shooting weddings there and have a great relationship with the entire staff there (in fact, we’re the only videographers they have allowed to advertise directly on their website).

Stacie and I sat down and worked out what we really wanted to showcase with the new project.  The Lagoon brings some interesting and unique features to Salisbury and we think we did a good job of capturing that in this promotional piece.

This year I tried something a little different.  The montage this year is slanted a little more towards the seniors.  I’m sure it may run the risk of upsetting some of the parents of the younger kids but I just felt the girls that were leaving this year should have just a little extra attention paid to them.

When we found out that Samantha and David (a/k/a Tricky) were getting married on Halloween we were ecstatic.  I’ve always wanted to shoot a Halloween wedding.  Much to my disappointment, they didn’t go all out Halloween themed with their wedding.  After talking to Sam and her dad, however, I found out that they were incorporating “some” Halloween elements into the wedding and Sam wishes she had done more along those lines.  Well, that’s all I needed to hear.  I took the opportunity to put a nice, romantic (yet “Spooky”) twist onto their video.

Sam and Tricky got married at St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Delmar, DE.  Tricky had family ties to the Delmar Fire Department so their carriage from the church to the reception hall (which, incidentally, was the fire station in Delmar) was one of Delmar’s finest fire trucks.  I love it when people incorporate so many personal elements into their wedding and I’m very honored to have been a part of their special day.

When Rachel’s dad approached us to do a college recruiting video for his daughter, Rachel, we were excited to be able to help.  Sports recruiting videos are one of the newest markets for us and represent a huge opportunity for us to help high school athletes show their skills off to college recruiters in a very fast, easy way.  No more do college recruiters have to come watch their young new talent on the field.  By putting these videos online, kids are able to get their talents in front of a lot more college recruiters and open up additional opportunities for them that they would have never had otherwise. We were doubly proud to help because one of the best pitching coaches in the area recommended us to Rachel.

Wow.  To say that the video was worth the wait would be a vast understatement.  If I started cataloging all the little details that you used to get the most out of our wedding day for the video, this e-mail would probably take me the rest of the day. But I can’t let all of them go unmentioned either so, much like you did, I’ll try to hit the highlights

I loved the opening montage of the empty, but glowing church and the steeple with the branches blowing in the breeze in the foreground.  It took me right back to the day, to the blustery weather.  And, it’s a testament to your editing prowess that you managed to capture the best moments of me getting ready with my bridesmaids and my family without any embarrassing stuff   I loved having the opportunity to see Ryan prepping with his guys too … that shot of Ryan coming down the stairs and his mom looking up at him was amazing and the song choice was spot-on.

During the ceremony, the soft music was a great accompaniment and, once again, your editing and subtle transitions kept the action moving.  I never would have remembered our first words to each other as husband and wife if you hadn’t caught them on Ryan’s mic as we exited the church

In fact, you did such a good job editing and transitioning between the different phases of the day that it’s almost too easy to overlook how difficult it must be to make a video flow that smoothly … Capturing the laughter during the group photos, the goofiness of our bridal party being introduced, the over-the-drape shot to start our dance (I thought I was watching a movie!), the slow-mo of Ryan dipping me.  And, I know you were worried about the combined mother/son-father/daughter dance, but, once again, you did an amazing job.  The little timing edits you made during the dance sequence were priceless too: Scott and Audrey’s kiss, the clapping, using the song’s rhythm to make the cuts … wow, wow and wow.

Basically, in addition to all your hard work on the amazing editing and voice-over narration in the video, you did exactly what I’d hoped: captured moments that I would have never otherwise been able to see or moments that, in the hustle and bustle of the day, would have too easily been forgotten or overlooked without your video.

Last but not least, this e-mail would not be complete without mentioning the completely above and beyond work you did to get the ceremony cut to show my Grandfather.  I won’t ever forget that.
